Despite being called lucky in many cultures, people associate black cats with bad luck and witchcraft! This is making people not want to adopt them. These are only a few of many reasons why people don’t want to adopt them.
Black cats are considered hard to photograph for oline shelter listings, making them look like a blob of black, which doesn’t happen to lighter coloured cats. Also, if their pictures are taken in dark places, it is hard to see them.
Many shelters, such as the RSPCA, try to highlight that black cats are still loving and wonderful companions. Adopting during October is a great way to save a black cat, as they are most likely to not find a forever home during this time, due to harmful myths.
