“What, what on earth do you mean?” Stuttered Flora, “How could a book be the reason!”

Esmeralda hummed loudly then started to spin in a circle. After several swirls she stopped and faced Flora.

“You see this isn’t a normal house as I’m sure you can tell. Of course you must have noticed the massive tree in the center!” She exclaimed\, gesticulating wildly while creeping closer. Her eyes bulged outards; their gentle blue appeared to be pale purple.

Flora took one, two steps backwards and squeezed her left hand. “Of course I noticed I’d have to be blind to not have!” She retorted nervously.

“Oh I see, I see. Of course!” Esmeralda shrieked, she glanced to her right then looked back at her, “Now Flora, I need to explain something to you, but promise you won’t freak out.”

“Oh, I. I am not sure what you mean?” Flora chuckled. She continued to back away from Esmeralda whose eyes looked to be flashing purple. Flora’s hands were shaking; What was going on? Suddenly there was a blinding light that made Flora drop to the floor on her hands and knees.

Once the soreness around her eyes had vanished, Flora slowly opened them.

“Esmeralda?” She choked. Flora brought her hands to her eyes and rubbed them only to feel a strange tingling sensation on her palms, she looked down at them and noticed bright yellow glitter was covering them. Flora quickly wiped her hands on her brown skirt which then sparkled yellow too!

“Esmeralda?!” She cried out anxiously. What was she about to tell her? Unsure what else she should do Flora followed an urge pulling her towards the special tree in the centre of Esmeralda’s house.

She crept delicately over bundles of clutter, strawn clothes and potted plants. The walls around her began to change back into a mess of overflowing shelves and hanging ornaments. The roof began to glow iridescently and a sweet smelling aroma swarmed the air. The only thing that seemed to have changed was that everything seemed to sparkle somehow. As if it had been tapped by a girl with a golden touch.

“Esmeralda!”

A rustle nearby made Flora jump in surprise. She anxiously squeezed her left hand. Looking to her right she noticed a pile of dumped clothes that shone golden yellow. The clothes seemed to be moving. Almost like something was wriggling inside. It was as if the pile was alive. Flora gasped. Slowly and cautiously she approached the strange moving mound and reached a hand outwards, hesitantly grabbed the top t-shirt and yanked it to the side. Too nervous to get any closer Flora glanced at the squiggling pile. Only to jump back immediately.

A petite creature with resplendent, golden hair and deep purple eyes laid shaking in a nest they seemed to have made in the mound of clothes. It yawned and shook gently, its hair sparkled and a dazzling glitter spread around its naked body. Two large iridescent wings that looked just like a  butterfly’s wings laid on either side of their minuscule body.

Flora stood, staring stunned at the magnificent creature that appeared to have flown straight out of a fairytale book. She waited for any sign of movement before stepping closer to take a better look. However the still body that was there a second ago had disappeared. Flora’s jaw dropped, where had it gone, it was there only just a moment ago.

“Looking for something,” murmured a soft voice by her ear. Flora moved her face slightly but couldn’t see anyone. She sprang back and looked around. There was no one there! Then a quiet but boisterous voice reverberated round the house.

“Esmeralda?” Flora asked quietly. Then a tiny fairylike creature appeared before her, hair sprinkling sparkles all over the floor.

“I’m right here!” the fairy declared.

Flora felt her head ache; her eyes started to close and her legs started wobbling. No not now!
